1. PHERAN

Pheran is the most popular Kashmiri traditional dress of Jammu and Kashmir. It is mainly worn by people in the Kashmir region. However, it is also popular in some districts of Jammu region.

Pheran is a blend of Indian and Middle Eastern attires. Pheran is a unique loose and long attire similar to that of Kurtas. It acts as a sweater, jacket, coat or even blanket whatever you want it to be but I am sure it serves its purpose.  

In Kashmir, the Pheran is for Men as well as it is a Kashmiri dress for Ladies. For Men, the Pheran is simple but attractive. However, for the women, the Pheran comes with beautiful Iranian Zari embroidery work.

2. DOGRI SUTHAN

The Dogri Suthan as the name suggests is primarily the Dogra Traditional Dress of the Jammu region. Dogra is an ethnicity belonging to the Shivaliks and the lower plains of the Jammu region. 

Dogri Suthan is an inseparable part of the traditional clothing of Jammu and Kashmir. Dogri Suthan is loose from waist to knees while it gets tighter from knees to ankle creating many folds or pleats at the ankle.

Both men and women can wear the Dogri Suthan but the styles are different. Sometimes the Dogri Suthan is also known as Chudidar Pyjamas. These Chudidar Pyjamas are the favourite articles of clothing of the Dogra Kings.

3. SAFA

Proud Dogras used to wear Turbans along with their long Kurtas and Chudidar Pyjamas. These traditional Turbans are known as Safas and are very popular in the Jammu region.

At present, the elders in the Dogra community wear Safas. In functions and festivals, all the men wear Safas which is a unique part of the Dogra Cultural identity.

4. DOGRI SUIT

Dogri Suit is the Traditional Dogra Dress of Dogra women in the Jammu region. The Dogri Suit Comprises of Salwar and Kameez

The uniqueness in style and the beautiful embroidery in Golden and Silver threads makes Dogri Suit first choice among the Dogras.

Dogri Suit is accompanied with the Dupattas matching with the Suit. The Dupattas for general wear are modest while for special occasions the Dogra clothing Dupattas are filled with different beautiful patterns. These patterns are mainly birds, cherries, flowers etc

The ethnic and the most popular apparel of Kashmiri men is Pathani Suit which is often known as Khan Dress. Pathani Suit mainly derives its origin from the land of Hindu Kush Mountains- Afghanistan.

6. GUJJARI DRESS

Gujjars are the Nomadic tribes of Jammu and Kashmir living in the Mountain ranges of Jammu and Kashmir. Most of the tribal Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir depends on livestock

The Dress of Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir is also unique. The Gujjars wear Long Sleeve Kurtas and loose Salwars. However, the distinguishing element of the Gujjari Dress is the heavy artistic Jewellery most of which is made up of Silver.

The Gujjari Dress is also one of the beautiful Kashmiri traditional Dress. In winters, Shwals and thin but warm sheep wool blankets are used by both men and women of the Gujjar community. 


7. FATKI

Fadki Fatki

Fadki or Fatki is the Traditional blanket used by Gujjars, Bakerwals and the Dogras living in the mountains of the Jammu region.

This traditional Kambal or blanket of the Pahari people is made of the sheep wool. Livestock and Agriculture is the major source of income for the mountain dwellers of Jammu and Kashmir. 

Most of the Tribal communities use traditional Fadki to warm themselves in the harsh winters of Jammu and Kashmir. 

Fadki is made by the artisans in the community. It is thin and light but provides warmth much more than any other modern blanket. 

Since the fadki is light in weight, many in the community especially males use Fadki as Shawl in Winters. 


8. KHRAW

Khraw

Khraw is the traditional Clothing element of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Khraw is traditional footwear of Jammu and Kashmir made up of wood

It is however not used extensively nowadays by the people of Jammu and Kashmir, but every household in Jammu and Kashmir has a pair of Khraw. 

Nowadays, Khraw is used mainly in the Pooja and Kitchen to maintain purity. It is also used by priests in temples and other places of worship in Jammu and Kashmir. 


9. KUNTOPS

Kuntops

Kuntops is the traditional Dress of Ladakh for women. Kuntops is the bewitching dress of Ladakh pleasing to the eyes, mostly worn by the women of Ladakh belonging to the Tibetan origin.

Kuntops are woolen robes of bright colours mostly red. Kuntops are also known as Chuba in some parts of Ladakh. 

The headgear which is decorated with colourful stones worn by women of Ladakh on special occasions is known as Perak.

For men in Ladakh, the woollen robes are known as Goncha. Goncha is the traditional attire for men of Ladakh.

It is generally made up of Gold or Silver hanging from the forehead attached to the scarf. The shape of Jiggni is mostly circular, semi-circular or triangular

Nath is a nose-ring which is an inseparable part of the Dogra and Gujjar community. Nath is worn by the Dogra and Gujjar women. 

Nath is known as Laung in Dogri. In Dogra Culture, women wear Nath irrespective of their marital status. Married and Unmarried both women can wear Nath, however, the design varies. 


3. Dejihor Earrings

Dejihor is the traditional Earrings of the Kashmiri Pandit community. These are worn by the Kashmiri women after the marriage. 

The piercing for Dejihor is also unique, piercing is done more than one times in order to wear Dejihor.
